Student Life OverviewExperience the community of a liberal arts college with the benefits of a major research university at the Robert D. Clark Honors College—designed for curious minds and changemakers who want a well-rounded, challenging, and transformative education.
Clark Honors College courses are designed to complement your major courses with interdisciplinary, topic-driven classes that replace the ´óÏóÊÓƵ general education requirements. Classes are small and discussion-based, so you can ask questions, explore ideas, and collaborate with supportive professors and peers from across campus who become lasting mentors and friends.
CHC offers specialized courses including an honors thesis project series to guide your research and connect you with thesis advisors, and a professional series to explore common career paths and engage with alumni in your field.
No minimum requirements, test scores optional—we thoroughly review each applicant to bring bright, thoughtful, and motivated students into our diverse academic community. To apply to the CHC, simply write a supplemental essay and submit it with your ´óÏóÊÓƵ application.
Every CHC student completes a unique thesis project where they become an expert on a topic and ask questions, develop research skills, and practice communicating complex ideas, with support from faculty mentors and coursework.
CHC students have opportunities for hands-on research and access to specialized seminars and programs, including professional pathways in law, management, and medicine with guaranteed admission into partnered graduate programs. New courses teach students how to network by pairing them with CHC alumni mentors.
From your faculty advisor to your thesis committee, award-winning professors who teach in diverse academic areas are here to support you and help you aim high.
The students and my colleagues are talented, creative, and inspiring individuals. I learn something new every day and I love that.
Associate Teaching Professor of Chemistry
This is a community devoted to shared learning and discovery, and every day I learn by the example of my students' and colleagues' generosity, creativity, and disciplinary range.
Associate Teaching Professor of Literature and Film
I appreciate being in community with students from all walks of life, who come to class with curiosity and a willingness to respectfully listen and engage with one another.
Associate Teaching Professor of Social Sciences
I have absolutely loved working with CHC students. The support that CHC faculty gets from administration and staff is a huge plus for me, too.
Associate Teaching Professor of Narrative
Since coming to the CHC several years ago, my only regret is that I didn't come here sooner. I'm proud to be part of this fabulous faculty, I'm grateful to work alongside such a supportive staff, and I'm endlessly inspired by the students.
Professor of Music
I have learned something from almost every single CHC student I've ever worked with. Such a privilege.
Professor of Law
Spanning every major and all aspects of campus life, Honors College students are united by the community they build through the CHC experience.
The CHC taught me that education isn't just about a pen and paper or an academic book, but education means to understand the people around you and the world and its problems fully and with an open mind.
CHC '25 · Multidisciplinary Science Major
In my CHC classes, I saw a more human side of science. I liked learning about the lives of people I'll get to work with.
CHC '24 · Computer Science Major
Get to know the professors in the Honors College. They want you to succeed, and some of them will be mentors or even friends that you would keep throughout your time in college. They can fight for you or even tell you something that you wouldn't otherwise know.
CHC '25 · Psychology and Political Science Major
The thesis is such a gift. I have not, in my travels, come across another undergraduate environment that encourages the idea of a thesis where you have the freedom to explore your own interests and to become an expert in something.
CHC '94 · Psychology Major
I finally understood; the small classes, the intimate conversations: That's what a liberal arts education is.
CHC '26 · Multidisciplinary Science Major
It was awesome to be in CHC classes; to have that discussion space with everybody from different disciplines and to be able to hear different perspectives. To me, CHC means community. We connect over what we’re learning and everyone is very accepting and open-minded.
CHC '26 · Psychology and Family and Human Services Major
Thesis preparation, and all the work that went into it, helped instill a confidence in myself. At the Honors College, I honed my writing and research skills. That foundation shaped and prepared me for every role I've had in the news industry and continues to guide me today.
